DISCLAIMER* The Beerd Baron is not sure that is how the actual song goes and I didn't want to look it up so I went with my best guess based on my memory of the seminal Hanson hit..."Mmmbop"
I had an amazingly generous person send me some beer recently and in there was the tight little number Mmmhops by the Hanson Bros. They've branched out of music and into beer! I'm honestly surprised that nobody else had already named a beer Mmmhops but I'm glad that they were the first since they are most deserving of the title.
Oh...you want to know how the beer was? Is that why you came here? Not to listen to me bastardize Hanson lyrics?
It was good! I hate being so general but that was my honest thought while drinking it.
It's a pale ale and its a solid example of a pale ale. I can't think of anything particularly special to say about it though.
Here is some decent praise for it...it was a good beer. If I wanted to pour someone a glass of something that I thought was a solid representation of the word beer then I could do a lot worse than a can of Mmmhops.
It's a strong 7.5 on the Drinkenscale though so a little over average on the booziness but it didn't really come through in the flavor, which is a good thing. It was definitely hop forward which is what I'd expect from a beer with the word hop right there in the name.
I'd love to tell you how it poured or how the lacing kissed and caressed my glass but...I drank it straight from the can like a fucking savage.
Mouthfeel? MOUTHFEEL??? It felt wet in my mouth like a liquid should. Cold and carbonated. Not a lot of carbonation...I'd say just the right amount.
Honestly, this was the perfect beer to call Mmmhops. Like the song, it is a generic representation of a genre that is catchy as all hell and you can't help loving it even if you aren't 100% sure why you love it.
Good job, Hanson Bros. You keep on mmmbopping through life!

New Holland White Hatter
New Holland calls their White Hatter a WPA. It falls somewhere between a pale ale and an IPA and it really skates the line quite well. When you combine two styles of beer, you can end up with something that ends up lacking in both departments. However, with their White Hatter, New Holland has really created something unique. It has some of the citrus and hops you'd expect from an IPA combined with the subtlety of a pale ale. Where Oskar Blues failed me a little by advertising their beer as an IPA, New Holland calls theirs something different and so I knew to change my expectations. That doesn't mean this is some amazing beer, it isn't, but it is good. I"d drink it again. Also, with it falling on the lower end of the Drinkenscale at 5.5 you don't have to worry about getting too drunk.

Castle Danger 17-7 Pale Ale
This will probably be a short post because there just isn't a lot to say about this beer. As far as pale ale goes it's good. It's just not anything special. Castle Danger is out of Two Harbors, MN and I've had some really good beer from them. This just isn't it. Again, not bad, just boring. It's a beer, that's all I an really say. It's light, it's got some hops. I'm not complaining about it, I'm just not impressed I suppose. If it was hoppier or lighter, it might be something really special but instead it falls right in the middle of all of the flavors they are looking to achieve. You're not going to dislike this beer. It's a 5.8 on the Drinkenscale so it gets the job done.
